Margaret Mahy has single-handedly re-created the Saturday night family-viewing TV serial with Maddigan’s Quest (screening on Three, Saturdays, 7pm). The original novel was named Maddigan’s Fantasia but nervous film lawyers, fearful of Disney, changed the title. This TV tie-in edition has poorer quality paper but a better cover, eight pages of colour photos, and costs $5 less. A bargain and a riveting read.
