This novel, written in the Maori language, is a sequel to Te Mere (1999). It was followed by Te Whenua Kauruki (2001).The three cousins Hana, Te Ra and Morehu (and the dog) who first appeared in Te Mere now find themselves washed up on an island, far from help and threatened by a dangerous enemy.
Te Mura a Tangaroa (The Flame of the Sea God) was published by Huia for the New Zealand Ministry of Education. Its suggested reading level is primary and intermediate. The reading age: 8 to 12.
In Maori:"Kare ano kia awatea, engari kua uhia te moana ki te kohu. Whakauaua ana te kite o nga tamariki. Kua kopipiri ratou ki roto o tetahi waka. Tata ana ki te totohu i to ratou taumaha! Ka piki, ka heke te waka ki te amai o te moana, penei i te tawhaowhao nei.'"
