The Ginormous Machine Don Coulter

The Ginormous Machine Don Coulter, 2006, Blue Jeans, Waimate NZ, 28 pages, paperback. ISBN 0-473-10874-7

A boy tells in verse the story of the amazing machine his father has built in their garage.
“A machine with an engine gears and a pump
Most of the bits he’d bring home from the dump.”

To the despair of his wife and the irritation of the family pets, his machine nears completion. Although it may wash clothes, scare birds and trim hedges, it has a few teething problems. The day that Dad drives the machine out of the garage proves memorable for several reasons.
Patricia Baker’s colour illustrations are a nice match for the naïve charm of this story.
